From time to time at the Welcome Wednesday Wacky Youth Club a group challenge is issues and generally accepted by those present.
This one was to build the tallest free-standing tower out of cocktail sticks and marshmallows. To make it a bit more tricky (or should that be "sticky"?) the marshmallows were not the tiny ones (like the ones often served with hot chocolate and cream (sorry, those are reserved for sleep overs suppers!)) but the "normal" size ones.
Once the suggestion of cutting the marshmallows in to small pieces (and that is when it got "sticky") did the idea that a tall tower could be build. The idea of a "wide" base was attempted and "strengthening pieces" suggested.
Anyway, out of the four groups, two towers where successfully built.

Weekend Away 2015
This year also saw a difference in how the Weekend was planned. Four of those attending met with four of the Leaders to decide on the theme and how the theme could be explored. They also designed both the overall logo for the event and the logo which, by iron on transfer, was used on the tee shirt they decorated on the Friday evening.
During the weekend, we looked at "how do we know God is there", "What gifts we have" and "Why do we trust God". This was explored through sharing experiences, drama, craft and trust based games. We also sailed a model barge off to the Kent coast, carrying a cargo of stones with our gifts written on them. Not sure where it is now as it sailed away out of sight.
Sunday morning we joined with the congregation to celebrate Harvest and
share in their Harvest Meal. One of the
points from the Ministers' address was about trusting God. This slotted in well with our last session
and was a Spirit lead connection, the Minister had no idea what we were
thinking about. After a short session
looking at trusting, we headed home.

A total of 18
young people aged between 9 and 17 and 6 leaders attended the event which was held at Thorpe Bay Methodist
Church in the Southend Circuit.
Friday evening after eating food, they had the tee shirt logo ironed on and then decorated it.

Saturday lunch was eaten on the sea front where we launched the model barge. The afternoon, the highlight for many of them, was spent at Adventure Island.

WWWYC Easter Card Competition 2015
Well could not "not really" do a Club meeting close to Easter without running an Easter Card competition. (The younger Club also held a competition too) We were lucky to have our Minister, Rev Sue King, judge the entries.
As you can see, those wishing to take part had an intense time making their cards. Rev Sue found it hard to pick a winner as there was a range of styles. However, she picked a winner, as shown below: -

WWWYCs Got Talent - Jan 2015
As a result of a suggestion from Club members via their elected representatives at the Leadership Meeting, a Talent Show was held. It was agreed with by the YP Reps that there would be a first prize of £20 vouchers and two runner up prizes of £10 vouchers each. They also requested that someone "famous" present the prizes.
Our "famous" person was The Mayor of Maldon, Clr. S Nunn. His claim to fame was to have been a contestant on the Radio One quiz "Mayor of Where" a few weeks before.
The two judges were ladies who have several to many years experience in the armature dramatics and dancing world. They were also supported by a gentleman who did the sound engineering for them.
Three acts competed in the show and we were pleased to have two young ladies from the younger club perform also. They were in the competition too.

New WWWYC Logo
At one of the Leadership Meetings, the Young People Representatives asked if a new logo could be designed. The competition was held on 14th Jan and a prize fro the winner (gift voucher) was also given as well as having their design as the logo.
Congratulations to the winner and the design was: -
One of the young people offered to take the design hame and "computerise it" (not sure if they are becoming a computer geek|). Here is the output from that: -

WWWYC Christmas Party 2015
On Wednesday 10th December WWWYC held it's Christmas party. It was held (sort of early) as it was felt many would be involved with Christmas activities at school or other organisations.
Once the younger group, who also had their Christmas party on the same evening had gone home, the young people were invited to play the "hanging doughnut" game. The game is about who can eat the doughnut (which is hanging on string from a rope across the room) with out using their hands. The doughnut must not drop on the floor but eaten whole from the string. The winner took 1minute 6.1 seconds.
They also enjoyed the "chocolate game" where you attempt to eat a bar of chocolate (square at a time) wear a hat, scarf and gloves. However, you only get a turn if you throw a 6 on a dice. In order to give the person eating their way through the bar is to throw and pass on the dice as quickly as possible!
The young people brought some food in for all to share, with drinks being provided. After food, they played the "flour game". Flour is placed in a bowl and turned upside down. A sweet is placed on the centre of the flour. Each player takes a turn to cut away a slice of flour. Who every causes the sweet to fall off the top has to pick the sweet up with their teeth.
There was also an opportunity to play "apple bobbing"
